Driveshaft disconnect leads to Mack recall

Rear axle yoke issues have led Mack parent company Volvo to voluntarily recall over 2,000 vehicles

Mack Trucks Australia will recall 2,193 trucks in Australia as a precautionary measure over issues with the rear axle yoke, according to a spokesperson for parent company Volvo Group.

The voluntary safety recall affects Mack Granite, Mack Trident, Mack Titan and Mack Super-Liner trucks manufactured between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2016.

“In certain operating conditions, vehicles equipped with a SPL250 driveshaft and specific Meritor rear axles may experience issues with the rear axle yoke,” the spokesperson says.

“In certain operating conditions, these vehicles may experience rear axle yoke failure, potentially causing the driveshaft to disconnect.”

Volvo Group says it is contacting vehicle owners to request they visit a Volvo dealership or authorised workshop at their earliest convenience for an inspection, and possible replacement, of the first drive axle input yoke.

“Customers are encouraged to contact their local dealer or authorised workshop to arrange a convenient time for their vehicle to be inspected,” the spokesperson says.
