Volvo Group Australia has appointed former Mack and Volvo executive Gary Bone to the role of vice-president of Mack Trucks in Australia.

BREAKING: New VP incoming for Mack Trucks Australia
Incoming VP, Gary Bone

He replaces Dean Bestwick who is moving to a senior sales position with Mack in the United States.

Bone will take up the position on Monday, March 2.

For the past six years he has been managing director of Chesterfield Australia, distributor and importer of John Deere agricultural equipment.

Bone has a long association with the Mack and Volvo brands, starting as a Mack salesman in Melbourne in 1996 before moving to a role in the US.

It was during his time in the US that Volvo acquired Mack in 2000.

Moving back to Australia, Volvo Group Australia appointed Gary Bone in 2005 to the position of vice-president of Mack Trucks.

In 2009 he moved across to be vice-president of Volvo Trucks and remained in that role until resigning in 2013 to take up the managing director’s position at Chesterfield Australia.

Asked his reasons for applying for the Mack position, a candid Gary Bone said simply, "Trucks are in the blood and I’m genuinely excited about returning to Mack.

"It feels like I’m coming home."

His return comes at a particularly exciting and challenging time for Mack as formidable competitors Freightliner and Kenworth ramp up the introduction of new models.

Meantime, it is becoming increasingly apparent that Mack will later this year release the long-awaited Anthem model.

"Exciting times, for sure," he said. Indeed!
