Industry consultancy Advantia is spruiking its new Performance-Based Standards (PBS) option – the Super Semi.

Claiming extra payload per trip at the same tare weight, the Super Semi sees a spreading of the triaxle group to enable higher Gross Combination Mass (GCM) options.

The combination can be configured as 1-2-2+1 or 1-2-1+2.

"By spreading the axles out, the Super Semi now has an extra axle group and comes in at 49.5t GCM capacity," Advantia says

"Furthermore, this is achieved at Concessional Mass Limits (CML), so Higher Mass Limit (HML) routes are not required.

"Further advantages of the design include the ability to get great access at the increased mass. As with all PBS combinations, Super-Semi payload heights are influenced by the suspension qualities of the prime mover and trailer."

Victor Trumper joined Advantia in 2018

Advantia MD Victor Trumper emphasises the company has worked hard and secured access on PBS Level 1 networks at 49.5 tonne in in Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia, with pending decisions from Victoria and Tasmania.

And, because the design is under PBS, it still offers 43 tonne General Mass Limit access under the PBS Level 1 notice.

"We’ve worked with a few trailer-builders to get a few of these things on the road," Trumper says, mentioning Pumpa Manufacturing, Kennedy Trailers and Chris's Body Builders.

"With these projects, and this is why we’ve had some success with it, we’ve gone out and squared away road-manager positions on what axle bearing they are willing to provide on PBS networks.

"And then we furnish documentation for any of the projects we are engaged for.

"It just helps get these things on the road quicker rather than not."

He also underlines its flexibility.

"This is a legal vehicle," Trumper says.

"This thing can go and do lightweight deliveries or whatever and then on certain routes it can operate up to 49.5 tonnes without any trouble."

Along with blk produce and logs, he feels it would be ideal for the likes of beverage deliveries into supermarkets.
