Fuso Canter recalled over ungreased caliper slide pins

Brembo brake pad wear may accelerate under defect condition

Fuso Canter recalled over ungreased caliper slide pins
Required replacements will be made free of charge

Daimler Truck and Bus Australia has recalled certain Fuso Canters after it was discovered grease was not applied to the slide pins of the front wheel brake calipers on some units.

If the outer Brembo brake pad is continually used under the defect conditions, it cannot be fully returned after the brake operation and wear is accelerated, Daimler noted.

In worst case, the outer pad may detach from the vehicle.

"If the outer brake pad detaches it may cause a hazard to other road users and reduced brake efficiency which in turn will increase the risk of an accident and/or injury or death of vehicle occupants and other road users," the recall notice reads.

Owners are asked to contact any Authorised Daimler Commercial Vehicle Dealership who will inspect the Brembo brake pads and if required, replace them free of charge.

The recall impacts 3,595 model-year 2017-20 LDT Canter FEA21 & FEB21 units.

Meanwhile, Daimler is also seeking the owner of a solitary 2020 Mercedes-Benz Actros for which the lock nut at the strike button on the portable fire extinguisher may not be mounted.

If the fire extinguisher is activated and no lock nut is present, the strike button assembly, with integrated piercer is ejected under pressure from the fire extinguisher.

"If the lock nut is not present and extinguisher activated, the strike button assembly can eject under pressure and increase the risk of injury to the user, in addition to this scenario; propellant and powder may leak from the exposed opening leading to the fire extinguisher not operating correctly. In the event of a fire this will increase the risk of injury and/or death to the user."

The owner can contact their dealer to make an appointment to have the work carried out at no charge.

The VIN for that affected unit is here.
