Reduced speed limit in effect on Princes Highway

Speed limit

A three-kilometre section of the Princes Highway passing through Bairnsdale will be subject to a reduced speed limit of 60km/h, starting today (Friday, June 28).

It will replace the current mix of speed limits across stretches between the Bairnsdale weighbridge in the west of the town over to the Bairnsdale Regional Health Service in the east.

It had previously been an 80km/h zone from the heavy vehicle weighbridge to Calvert Street, which will now be dropped to 60km/h.

The current speed of 70km/h from Calvert Street to Forge Creek Road will also be reduced to 60km/h.

The new speed limit is also expected to increase safety for heavy vehicles using the weighbridge located south of the Bairnsdale-Dargo Road intersection, as Bairnsdale continues to grow in population, as well as at the Racecourse Road intersection that has increasing traffic from sporting and recreational events.
