Swedish truck manufacturer Scania is hiring additional factory staff to meet demand for vehicles
August 25, 2010
In another sign the global economy is beginning to recover from the lows of 2008-2009, Swedish truck manufacturer Scania is hiring additional factory staff.
A total of 500 new staff are being recruited for Scania’s various European manufacturing centres, with the goal of increasing output by the fourth quarter of 2010.
Scania is planning to speed up its production rate mainly because of the increase in demand from truck markets outside Europe, with the European market continuing to recover although it remains at historically low levels.
“During 2009 our employees used the period of low capacity utilisation for training and to develop and improve our methods and ways of working. Thanks to these efforts, we have achieved substantially improved productivity,” Executive Vice President and Head of Production and Logistics Anders Nielsen says.
The latest recruitment drive comes on top of a similar increase in staff levels in the second quarter of this year, although overall numbers will still be under pre-GFC levels.
