Scania unveils new Super 11 engine coming to Australia

The new iteration of Scania’s engine technology has been released, with the Super 11 focused on more efficient transport tasks

Global heavy vehicle OEM Scania has released its new Super 11 engine that is set to hit Australian shores next year.

The engine model is a lighter and more efficient solution for high-performance transport, with a more compact footprint set to provide up to seven per cent in fuel savings.

The Super 11 engine expands Scania’s powertrain portfolio, meeting the needs of weight-sensitive and energy-efficient applications.

Coming in at 85kg lighter than the Super 13, which it shares 85 per cent of its parts with, the Super 11 is available at 350, 390 or 430hp and meets Euro 4, 5 and 6 standards.

“This engine opens new possibilities for energy-efficient and cost-effective transport. It’s lighter, leaner and more flexible, yet it still carries the strength and reliability for which Scania is known,” Scania trucks sales and marketing product manager Ayyoob Zarmehri says.

It’s a smart choice for operators who need to balance performance, payload and sustainability in their daily work.”

Maintenance intervals are up to 30 per cent longer than Scania’s nine-litre engines when using LDF-5 engine oil, helping increase uptime and reduce service costs.

Scania says the Super 11 features various key improvements that are the result of years of testing of technical innovations. The new engine is equipped with Scania’s own cam phaser technology for variable valve timing, enabling real-time engine thermal management and improved combustion performance.

This is combined with new engine software and balance shafts for reduced vibration and a robust engine brake, which offers up to 344kW through Scania’s Variable Valve Brake system.

Scania’s patented turbo dosing system also improves AdBlue usage and further enhances engine efficiency.

The Super 11 is also compatible with both HVO and FAME, allowing operators to lower emissions without investing in new infrastructure.

The engine is designed for sectors such as the transport of tipper and bulk, fuel and volume goods, refuse collection and temperature-controlled, general cargo, Hooklift and Flatbed with cranes and recovery and fire engines.

“The Super 11 engine represents the next generation of intelligent transport. It combines the best of Scania’s engineering with the efficiency and adaptability that today’s operators demand,” Zarmehri says.

“Whether in the city or out on longer routes, this engine is built to perform – mile after mile.”

The Super 11 engine will be available for purchase from June 2025 in Europe, with it expected to hit Australia next year.
