Senator provides Warrego Highway rest area works update

The trucking-focused senator says after a delayed start works are now intensifying on the rest area facility approaching Roma

Trucking-focused senator Glenn Sterle has provided an update on a rest area upgrade along the Warrego Highway, with works progressing well.

Sterle says works on the facility on the highway approaching Roma originally experienced some delays surrounding pavement design, but now this has allowed local council to renew and relocate ageing water and sewer mains across the rest area site.

“This upgrade of other essential infrastructure was identified as a priority because compaction would not be possible over the fragile asbestos water main,” he says.

“Completion now would also prevent the new asphalt pavement from being dug back up within the next five years to undertake the water main renewal.”

In the coming weeks, Sterle says the rest area site should see completion of sealing and asphalt surfacing works.

Then, following this, irrigation systems, turf and landscaping will all be installed to enhance the facility’s usability and appearance.

“Once construction at the rest area is complete, roadworks will commence on the Warrego Highway to incorporate a widening and new turning lane, improving access and safety for motorists,” Sterle says.
