Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has revealed that the Macquarie Pass is closed along the Illawarra Highway for emergency works caused by recent severe weather.
Wild weather has lashed NSW, with TfNSW confirming there has been more than 250mm rain recorded at Macquarie Pass during the past three days.
Originally the pass was meant to be reopened at 4am today, but TfNSW has confirmed the road will remain closed between Tourist Road and Tongarra Mine Road.

“The road will remain closed to allow for investigations to be carried out to ensure the stability of the slopes,” TfNSW says.
“Access to homes and businesses within the work area will be maintained at all times under the direction of traffic control.”
TfNSW says diversions include via the Hume Highway, Picton Road, Mount Ousley Road and the M1 Princes Motorway, with diversions to add around 30 minutes extra travel time.
