GraysOnline Legendary Kenworth Auction

SPONSORED CONTENT: For those who missed out on snaring a Kenworth Legend 900 on its release, GraysOnline is offering one up for auction, along with many other immaculate trucks and trailers

This 2017 Kenworth Legend 900 is up for auction.

Were you one of those who blinked and missed it when the Kenworth Legend 900 prime mover went on sale for one day only last year? If so, then a chance for you to redeem yourself beckons, with GraysOnline announcing an upcoming auction of one of the limited edition trucks. This is no second-hand cast-off though, but an as-new, straight off the factory line 2017 model. Still in its wrapper, as they say.

The Legend 900 is a modern take on Kenworth’s T900, released in 1991 as a tribute to the legendary W900 AR. Built in the grand style of an American, long-bonnet truck, it’s the second release of Kenworth’s Legend series, following the Legend 950, which hit the market in 2015. Like all Australian Kenworths, the Legend 900 was built at the Paccar’s Bayswater manufacturing facility and is designed to handle the harsh Australian conditions.

The truck has been looked after by the good folks at Rendevski Transport, a family-run trucking business based in Shepparton with a long-standing affinity for the Kenworth name. It’s white, spotless and striking, ready for a new owner to impart their own personality on it.

Part of GraysOnline auction line-up which kicks off on November 29.

GraysOnline’s unreserved auction kicks off on Thursday, November 29 and runs until 7pm (AEDT) on Wednesday December 5. Also going under the hammer are seven Kenworth prime movers (including two T909s), along with two Freightliner prime movers, a Volvo FH prime mover, three Sloanbuilt B-double tipper-trailer combinations and four Krueger curtainsider trailers (2 x A trailers and 2 x B trailers). GraysOnline business development manager for transport Gillian Harvey says this auction is a special one.

“These Legend series trucks don’t come up very often and we’re proud the vendor has entrusted GraysOnline to achieve the best outcome for them.

“All the equipment offered by Rendevski Transport has been well-maintained and there’s a rebuild history available for the T909s,” Harvey says.

But there’s no denying the Legend 900 will be the main attraction when the bidding gets under way. Harvey anticipates a lot of attention in the auction, due to the equipment being offered and its unreserved status.

“You can’t buy this truck again, it’s a limited edition,” Harvey points out. “Because it’s an unreserved auction buyers have an opportunity to bid where they feel comfortable.

“We’re really excited to be offering this beautiful truck and we know that whoever buys it will fall in love with it.”

The Legend 900 may have the classic lines and features of yesteryear, but the retro feel has been melded with a state-of-the-art technological flair. Under the hood is a Cummins X15, 550hp engine matched with an Eaton 18-speed manual transmission and governed by a handmade wooden gear knob featuring the original Eaton Fuller logo. The truck might be a throwback to an era where fuel was cheap, but today’s Legend is anything but a gas-guzzler, with fuel-economy brought to the fore and safety an uncompromised priority. We’ve come a long way, after all.

While the exterior, with its side-mounted exhausts, exposed chrome elbows and 7-inch curved pipes, is sure to turn heads, it’s in the cab where the retro fittings really dazzle. The interior features a diamond pleat trim, flat dash layout, 4-spoke leather steering wheel, a traditional Kenworth bug and Legend 900 logo embroidered into leather seats.

“This truck really is a beauty,” Harvey says. “It’s a stunning tribute to Australia’s trucking heritage, and it’s ready to hit the road.”

The Kenworth Legend 900 is available for inspection at Dandenong South in Melbourne on Monday December 3, or by appointment.
