Harvest

With the advent of harvest season, Victoria Police has issued a safety message to drivers sharing the road with heavy vehicles across the period of increased activity.

A Facebook post is offering guidance on how to best drive around increased traffic of heavy vehicles.

“Typically, heavy vehicles contribute to 30 per cent of traffic on our roads but during harvest season, this figure more than doubles. We’re also expecting to see an increase in overall traffic as the weather heats up,” it says.

“The heavier the truck, the longer it takes for them to come to stop.

“Whether you’re behind the wheel of a truck or sharing the road this harvest season, please remember that road safety is everyone’s responsibility.”

Victoria Police advises drivers to be aware of where a truck’s blind spots are, be mindful of stopping distances, know how to safely overtake heavy vehicles, and ensure they don’t cut in front of a truck.
