The leader of Transport Women Australia Limited (TWAL) has announced her departure after almost eight years at the helm, with a new chair replaced.
As part of the association’s ongoing commitment to leadership succession and sustainability, TWAL chair Jacquelene Brotherton has passed on the role to Coralie Chapman.
Throughout her time in the role, Brotherton has received numerous recognitions, including the Excellence in Road Transport Award at the 2018 Women in Industry awards, the Female Leadership in Transport Award at the 2018 Australian Freight Industry Awards, Wyndham City Council’s 2019 Businessperson of the Year and the Australian Trucking Association’s Outstanding Contribution to the Australian Trucking Industry award in 2023.
“I look back at what has been achieved during this time and I am so proud of the organisation, its board, members, sponsors and supporters,” Brotherton says.
“The initiatives and programs introduced – Women Driving Transport Careers, Creating Connections Mentoring Program, Learning Initiatives Breakfasts Series and the ‘Living the Dream’ Song and Video.
“The establishment of the Driving the Difference scholarships with Daimler Truck Australia Pacific (2019); the Trish Pickering Memorial Award with Wes Pickering (2019); the Dream Maker Award with National Road Transport Museum (2023) and the Young Gunnette Award with Cummins Inc. (2024).

“We have honoured many of our amazing members by nominating them in industry awards and seeing them come out as triumphant winners.
“I have been honoured to present at conferences, both here and in the USA, plus participate in many roundtables and meetings to lobby for our industry in Australia and Washington DC. I have been able to host a TV Show and Podcasts, write numerous articles for publication in Australia and internationally.
“Truly fulfilling my dreams and now on to the next exciting chapter!”
TWAL says the change reflects the current capacity of each director and has been made to ensure continued leadership as the association moves forward.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to our outgoing chair Jacquelene Brotherton for her exceptional and deep contribution combined with her unwavering commitment to our mission. Jacquelene’s legacy has laid a strong foundation on which we now move forward,” TWAL says.
“With Coralie now stepping into the chair role, it is noted that Di Caldwell-Smith will be taking on the responsibilities of company secretary. As we enter this next chapter, we do so with excitement, fresh vision and renewed energy to continue driving progress, innovation, and inclusivity within the sector.”
