Transport Women Australia Limited and engine manufacturer Cummins have come together to introduce the Young Gunnette Award.
A new industry award, it was announced at the 2024 apprentice intake at Cummins Scoresby this month. This intake included a 33 per cent female participation rate.
It will be offered to young women in the transport industry under the age of 30, aiming to promote and encourage women in the industry early in their careers.
All entrants will be individuals who are going above and beyond in their positions to make their mark on transport. This can includes individuals who have worked to demonstrate leadership on a matter or initiative within the industry as an advocate.
“TWAL is delighted to offer this an award recognition of the amazing young women that we have joining our industry today and encourage others to see that trucking industry is a great career choice,” says TWAL chair Jacquelene Brotherton.
“We have some amazing young women within our industry and among our TWAL members and this is a chance to recognise one of them.”
Award nominations are set to open on March 8 and close on April 12. The inaugural winner will be announced at the TWAL ‘Living the Dream’ conference awards dinner on June 1 at the Hyatt Place, Essendon Fields.
The winning prize includes media and career confidence training, and a complimentary one year membership to TWAL.
