Queensland truck driver handed $5,000 after company failed to pay him correct penalty rates

A Queensland truck driver is among a number of workers to receive a significant back-payment after a Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) investigation.
The workplace watchdog recently inspected the books of Queensland businesses and uncovered thousands of dollars in unpaid entitlements.
The Maryborough-based truck driver received $5,000 for underpaid penalty rates in 2010-2011.
Eight workers at a Hervey Bay transport business, which is not involved in trucking, were back-paid a total of $82,900. The FWO says the employees did not receive correct redundancy entitlements when they were terminated last year.
All businesses found to have underpaid their employees voluntarily rectified the breaches when notified. The FWO says no further action will be taken against the companies.
The Ombudsman also recently netted $43,200 in unpaid entitlements for Sunshine Coast workers. It recovered more than $8.6 million in back-pay for 4,906 workers in Queensland last financial year.
