Volvo becomes European heavy truck market leader for the first time

A major 2024 for the brand across the globe was capped off with a historic moment for Volvo Trucks in Europe

Volvo Trucks is celebrating a company first, becoming the market leader in Europe for heavy trucks for the first time in its history in 2024.

Last year, Volvo had an overall market share in Europe of 17.9 per cent in the heavy truck sector, with 56,331 Volvo trucks being registered in the region.

As the new market leader in the sector, which is for trucks 16 tonnes and above, Volvo specialised in the UK, France, Germany, Poland and Spain. The European market includes all of the EU and the UK, Norway and Switzerland.

“We are very proud to be the market leader in Europe. This is clear proof that our customers appreciate the fuel efficiency, safety and uptime of our trucks and that we have a very attractive product offering,” Volvo Trucks president Roger Alm says.

“Our new FH Aero trucks that were launched in 2024 are just outstanding. These trucks are available with electric, gas and diesel powertrains and they have quickly become very popular on the market. Transport companies choose Volvo because our products and services help them grow their business and reduce CO2.

“I wish to extend a big thank you to our customers for their trust in us, and also to our dealers, suppliers and our colleagues within the Volvo Group for this achievement.”

Around the world, Volvo Trucks increased its market share in 25 countries last year, with Volvo also securing its third consecutive year as the heavy truck market leader in Brazil with a share of 23.7 per cent.

In Australia, Volvo had a market share of 18.2 per cent, while in North America it increased by five per cent to a share of 10.5 per cent.

“We stand stronger than ever thanks to the complete renewal of our global product portfolio in 2024,” Alm says.

“In North America, where we aim to significantly grow our business, we launched a completely new platform that will be the base for a range of new models in the coming years. First out on the platform was the all-new Volvo VNL, which can deliver up to 10 per cent better fuel economy when compared to the previous generation.”
