Volvo Group Australia has been recognised by the Smart Energy Council, taking home an award for its smart transport capabilities.
The OEM was announced as the winner of the smart transport award at the council’s inaugural Smart Energy Excellence Awards gala dinner in Sydney.
The award recognises Volvo’s excellence in innovation, value and impact in transport, with an emphasis on renewable energy.
Volvo Trucks, operating under Volvo Group Australia, received the recognition for being an early mover in medium and heavy duty battery electric vehicles. Since Volvo’s first BEV hit Australian roads in 2021, Volvo electric trucks have covered more than a million kilometres in Australian cities and sits as the current market leader in the medium and heavy duty BEV segments.

With more than 73 heavy duty battery electric vehicles now operating throughout the country, Volvo Group Australia president and CEO Martin Merrick says operators get to “reap the benefits” of electrifying their transport operations.
“It’s super exciting to see our electromobility journey recognised by our peers outside of industry,” he says.
“We’re determined to provide quality transport solutions for our customers and having an industry leading electric truck range is just one part of the solving the decarbonisation puzzle.
“I’m very grateful to the Smart Energy Council for this recognition and look forward to seeing Australia’s electric truck fleet continue to grow and thrive in our cities.”
