Volvo hands over 60,000th locally built prime mover in special handover

The international OEM has celebrated the local milestone with a unique handover to a long-term, trusted family customer

Volvo Trucks Australia has recently handed over its 60,000th Australian built truck as it commemorates 60 years of Volvo in the country.

The Diamond Edition FH16 780 Globetrotter XL was handed over to Michael and Darren Borg of the Borg Group at Volvo’s Wacol headquarters.

“It’s a proud moment in Australian manufacturing to see this truck delivered to another proud Australian manufacturer,” Volvo Trucks Australia vice president of sales and marketing Tom Chapman says.

“Borg’s drive and innovation over the past 35 years have been inspiring, and it’s been a real privilege to see them grow from strength to strength.”

The milestone truck will be put to work hauling machinery and equipment to support the various Borg businesses. The 780hp, 17-litre, 3,800Nm prime mover is rated to 130 tonnes and includes a 13-speed I-Shift automated transmission, Volvo Dynamic Steering and Pilot Plus automated cruise control.

“It’s a great privilege to receive Volvo’s 60,000th locally made truck – a milestone that speaks to more than 30 years of partnership built on trust, quality and shared values,” Borg Group co-founder Michael Borg says.

“We’ve grown together, and this moment is a testament to what long-term collaboration can achieve.”

The Diamond Edition livery pays homage to six decades of Volvo in Australia, featuring Volvo’s manufacturing facility in Wacol that was established in 1972 and has since grown to become one of the largest vehicle manufacturing facilities in Australia.
