The Western Australian government has made an election commitment to establish the state’s first dedicated Heavy Vehicle Driver Training facility.
If re-elected, the state government will deliver the facility at Neerabup.
WA transport minister Rita Saffioti says the new TAFE-run facility will train 170 students a year from 2026, helping to meet demand for transport, logistics, civil construction and mining industries.

“Back in 2020, industry leaders approached Premier McGowan, the Minister for Education and Training, and me to create a dedicated training course for truck drivers,” Saffioti says.
“Since then, hundreds of students have graduated and gained employment from the Heavy Vehicle Driving Operations Skill Set through TAFE.
“It’s something I’m very proud of and now we’re taking it one step further.”
Saffioti says the new training facility will deliver the world-class, industry-relevant skills that students and employers need.
