Winners announced at Australian Freight Industry Awards

Transport identities of various sectors of the industry were honoured in Melbourne on September 3

After a three-year hiatus, the Australian Freight Industry Awards returned to normality on September 3 when close on 700 people attended the event at Crown Melbourne.

The awards, sponsored by TWU Super and Viva Energy Australia, recognised the achievements of transport operator and supplier companies and individuals across a range of categories.

The nominations for the awards surpassed the number lodged in 2020, the year when the awards were presented virtually.

More than 60 nominations were submitted for the 2022 event, covering small, medium and large operators from across Australia.

Cara Spencer from Alex Fraser Group and Transport Women Australia, took out the Female Leadership Award, and Claudia Jenkins from Linfox won the Young Achiever of the Year Award.

In other categories, SEA Electric won the Sustainable Environment Award, Knorr Bremse Australia took out the Application of Technology Award, Wettenhalls won the Best Practice Safety Award, and Qube Bulk received the Investment in People Award.

Transport industry veteran Colin Rees was voted the Personality of the Year.

Victorian Transport Association (VTA) CEO Peter Anderson says it was a pleasure to host dignitaries from state and federal governments, along with VTA life members, councillors and the hundreds of VTA members and transport industry operators and suppliers.

“Every one of our winners and finalists should be proud of their accomplishments, and particularly that they were achieved during a time of great challenge and uncertainty in people’s professional and personal lives.

“Their endurance, commitment and effort is reflective of every transport worker that has stood up and served our communities over the past three years, and it was terrific to recognise that in person at our awards presentation,” Anderson says.

“The VTA Executive Council and Secretariat extends its sincere congratulations to every award winner and finalist and looks forward to building on the success of this outstanding event for many years to come.”
