Works to divert trucks from East Seaham Road until end of year

Heavy vehicles must use a particular detour route until safety works are finished early next year

Transport for New South Wales has revealed traffic conditions will change from next week on East Seaham Road due to safety works.

The improvement upgrades will be carried out at East Seaham and will see the road closed in both directions for Port Stephens Council to seal and widen a 3.1km stretch of the road, upgrade drainage infrastructure and install safety barriers.

From Monday June 2, the road will be closed at the boundary of Port Stephens Council and Dungog Shire Council at East Seaham, with the road expected to be closed until early 2026.

This closure will affect existing heavy vehicle detours in place due to current load limits on Brig O’Johnston Bridge at Clarence Town.

Additionally, heavy vehicles cannot use Glen Martin Road as an alternative route as there is a 20 tonne limit at Glen William due to structural issues with an existing culvert.

The solution for motorists currently using the road is to use Italia Road, the Pacific Highway, The Bucketts Way and Limeburners Creek Road.

Articulated trucks, vehicles wider than 2.8 metres and vehicles heavier than 22.5 tonnes are advised to use the Pacific Highway and Italia Road instead and allow extra travel time.

Traffic control will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists. Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
